DENGUE CASES INCREASE OVER 2009 FIGURES IN ESMERALDAS PROVINCE - February 16, 2010
The health directorate of Esmeraldas has reported that there are 30 confirmed cases of Dengue fever so far in 2010. Blame is placed on the amount of rain which stagnates and allows breeding of mosquitoes. Authorities also lay blame on the lack of potable water.
January 2006 - 17 cases
January 2007 - 19 cases
January 2008 - 9 cases
January 2009 - 15 cases
Malaria which is endemic in Esmeraldas is expected to be reported in March, April, and May of this year as winter winds down.
