La Rambla - No doubt the mainstreet in Barcelona for
pedestrians. Watch the world walk by here and enjoy yourself.
There is virtually everything here for the human eye. You will
love the human statues, musicians, the singing birds, and the
news stands. Las Rambla is a very sophisticated experience.
Museu Nacional d'Art de Catalunya - Here you find one
of the world's largest collections of Romanesque art. Many of
the works were acquired obtained from churches in the catalonia
region in the 1920's.
La Pedrera - Gaudi's masterpiece was completed in
1910. An entire apartment block it features an amazing
sculpture park. There is now a museum on the premises of his
work. He is also the architect for the Sagrada Familia.
Sagrada Familia - No doubt this is one of the most
amazing structures on the planet. Another work by the architect
Gaudi, it oozes detail and massive size. There is no way that
pictures can do it justice. Tip: the best times to take pictures
is before 8:00 am, where the light is outstanding - especially
for photos of the nativity scene.
Fundacio Joan Miro - One of Catalan's most noted
artists began thei museum in 1975 and holds over 11,000 of his
paintings and other works. Make special note of the Tapis de la
Fundacio- which is textile tapestry.
Museu d'Art Contemporani - While Barcelona is an
ancient city it also displays a strong element of contemporary
art. Barcelona's contemporary art museum displays this element
proudly. Opened in 1995 it presents a large collection of
paintings, lectures and films.
Museu Picasso - One of the more popular museums in
Barcelona, you will see a wide array of his earlier work. The
museum is set inside a medieval palace.
Barcelona Cathedral - Dating from 1298, it
is comprised of various architectural styles from the ages.
Palau de la Mucica Catalana - A wonderful concert hall to
over 300 performances a year, this is not to be missed. The
stain glass windows and in particular the ceiling inan inverted
dome which is surrounded by 40 angels.
Parc de la Ciutadella - This is indeed a tranquil repose
from the hectic city life of Barcelona. Constructed in the
1860's its design is to allow the visitor to experience nature.
The Hivernacle and Umbracle greenhouses presents a fine example
of topical vegetation.
