FIRES CONTINUE TO PLAGUE ECUADOR
Fires continue to wreck havoc with Ecuador. A total of 850 fires have been reported during the current dry season of which 50 have been categorized as large, such as the fire last week on Pichincha. Total loss throughout Ecuador is currently 1500 hectares. Besides Pichincha, the provinces of Imbabura, Tungurahua, Chimborazo, and Manabi have been affected. Sources believe that many of the fires have been human caused. There is great difficulty in fighting the fires due to the lack of accessibility to some of the areas for fire fighting equipment. The past several days Quito has been covered in smoke and ash from some of the surrounding fires.
