Police, Military also focus on areas outside of Quito, Guayaquil, and Manta
Considerable effort is being made by police and the military during the state of emergency that began last week for Quito, Guayaquil, and Manta. However, they are also working in other provinces hoping to deter the movement of criminal elements to other areas of Ecuador. Cuenca is an example where there is no state of emergency but, police and military have picked up their surveillance to curb any up tick in crime.
Several years ago when efforts were made to curb crime in Guayaquil, authorities noticed an increase in the number of gangs from Guayaquil who began operating in Manta due to less police presence. (ECUADORRAVELADVISORY.COM)
