TAXI DRIVERS STRIKE IN LOJA
On November 10, 2009, nearly 1000 taxis blocked major roadways in Loja bringing the city to a halt. The drivers were protesting the continuing problems with pirate taxis operating in Loja. Drivers have had a severe year economically and the taxis operating who are not licensed through a cooperative have severely impacted their business. There was some violence issues between protesters and police which resulted in 20 demonstrators having been arrested.
