LAN ECUADOR TO BEGIN FLIGHTS TO THE GALAPAGOS ISLANDS - March 17, 2010
LAN Chile's Ecuador division, LAN ECUADOR has announced they will begin daily flights to the Galapagos Islands beginning in September of 2010. This is a coveted route due to high profitability where demand has exceeded supply. They will offer the route Quito-Guayaquil-Baltra. The other two carriers are TAME and AEROGAL who also fly to San Cristobal. They will be using an Airbus 320.
AEROGAL is now owned by AVIANCA-TACA.
Clearly, the new competition may invite lower prices. When LAN began flying domestic flights in Ecuador a price war ensued for passengers.
