ECUADOR UNDER UV ALERT - March 15, 2010
The phenomenon known as "day without shade" is currently aggravating UV conditions in much of Ecuador. Rates today in Quito may reach 16 in Quito and 14 in Guayaquil. Cuenca in 2009 reached a level of 23 and Quito was as high as 24 in 2008. It is recommended to where dark clothes and use a sunscreen of a minimum rating of 30 along with a hat. Exposure to UV rays is believed to contribute to causing skin cancer.
