TAXIS REQUIRED TO ACQUIRE TAXIMETERS IN THE NEXT 18 MONTHS
There are 60,000 taxis in Ecuador. On July 27, 2009, an executive decree passed requiring that all taxis must obtain a taximeter within 18 months. These meters will also have the ability to produce receipts. Cuenca currently has 3,160 out of 3,512 taxis with the taximeter. However, only 1500 are operable.
