PRESIDENT CORREA PROPOSES TAX INCREASES
Correa proposes an increase in taxes. The proposals need to be approved by the National Assembly and include a 12% tariff on paper imported by newspapers. Capital outflow of the Ecuador will have a new tax of 2% as compared to the current 1%. His objectives are to stem the flow of outbound capital, protect liquidity and dollarization, channel public savings-investment, and promote social justice. He also believes the increases will stimulate domestic demand by households. There will also be a new tax on all soft drinks.(TRAVEL SAFETY ECUADOR)
