CHIMBORAZO VISITORS CENTER INAUGURATED TODAY

Today marks the opening of the first phase of the new visitor center at the Chimborazo reserve. It has been designed to establish minimal impact on the environment. The center is partially buried under sand to reduce exposure to the wind and provide insulation. It is 1,856 square feet. Other elements are in the plans to include a restaurant. The center will be the checkpoint for visitors to the reserve. There were 14,000 visitors to area in2008. It is the highest peak in Ecuador at 6310 meters and is a dormant volcano.(TRAVEL SAFETY ECUADOR)
