Police Impostors Attempt to Steal Two-Million Dollars (Quito)
Yesterday ten assailants feigning a police control operation near the Guayasamin tunnel attempted to rob a Fortius convoy carrying almost two-million dollars for Banco de Pacifico. There was a van and armored truck with four employees approached the impostors who asked for credentials. The operation looked like any normal traffic control operation with police cones to slow the traffic along with a small table and laptop and a chair. The guards suspected something was up and immediately a gun battle ensued. Three of the guards were injured and hospitalized. The armored car was able to escape and later met up with police. The assailants were able to escape. An increasing number of crimes in Ecuador are conducted by criminals posing as police.(TRAVEL SAFETY ECUADOR)
